Old So Soon?

I'm sorry I've not updated my blog just over a month. But the school summer holidays have been super busy. Working, spending time with my brother while he's home and working some more.

I've come to a conclusion. I'm working too hard and not playing hard at all. I came across this conclusion this past weekend. When you haven't seen a friend, a really good friend I might add, for months and not weeks. You know that you have to do something about.
I love both of my jobs. I really do. I just have to put as much effort into making time for my friends as I do my work. After all your only young once. And I really don't want to be that person who keeps letting her friends down. That's just not me at all.

I also need a non work related hobby. So I've started knitting again. I know, I know I'm starting to sound like an old lady. I'll tell you what though its actually very therapeutic and relaxing.

Top 5: Things I value in a friendship

All of my friends know I love them a lot. They know that I will be there for them any time, anywhere. This Friday's Top 5... blog post is what I value in a friendship.

(In no particular order.)

No 1.) Trust
I'm not the most trusting of people. But the people I do have, I trust a lot. What type of relationship can you have with anyone if you don't have trust.

No 2.) Someone who is there for you.
Every friend you have in your life should be someone you share your joy with, or can go to when you NEED that shoulder to cry on. Friends, true friends, will be there for you through the good, the bad and everything in between.

No 3.) Someone who will listen.
If you have something on your mind a good friend will sit and listen. All night if they have to.

No 4.) Honesty.
A real friend will tell you the truth and be honest with you. They will call you out on your shit. They will tell you the truth about things, especially when they know you don't want to hear it.

No 5.) Someone who accept you for who you are.
Your friends should accept you for you are. They don't try and change you. They push you to be better but still let you be true to yourself. Even though you might not have everything in common with your friends, you still love them for who they are.

Hope everybody has a good Friday and a great weekend!

Sometimes It's More Fun Being Single!

As my 27th birthday is fast approaching (next Monday FYI :) 8th Nov), I have come to the conclusion that my life is not all bad. I'm certainly in a better situation than I was 12 month ago (although not financially) and happier. - On the work front.

(Pic from a night out with old work friends for another friends b'day Oct '08 I think)

Unlike some of my friends I'm not tied down in a relationship that's going nowhere. Sure I'm single and would love to have that special guy in my life, but I'd rather be single than settled and unhappy.

For the first time in a long time I'm in a job that I actually enjoy and I'm happy to be working part time. Because this leaves me we some spare time to do the other things I enjoy like blogging and writing. - I find I'm much more creative when single :)

I'm seeing my friends more often. Be it just hanging out on a Friday night, Wednesday night quiz night or as something different this past Monday (as well as tonight) going to a comedy club in Manchester (more on this later in the week). - When in a relationship this is usually one of the first areas we tend to miss and we shouldn't, at the end of the day our friends have been there long before and will be long after any guy.

So next time you think everything in your life is pulling you down think about three things that you are able to do that you couldn't do before, or can now do 'cos you have so much more time.

With a little help from my friends!

Ok so yesterday I was having a hell of a day with technology. My sky+ decided it had, had enough and was going to just, well go to sleep. I must admit I did drop a couple of 'f-bombs' along the way. I know, I know shouting and swearing is not going to make it work any faster. But who cares. It made me feel better. Ok it sorta made me feel better.
To make a long story very short it all started Monday afternoon when I was getting ready for work. My sky box decided it was going to go to sleep. So I unplugged it all and prayed that when I got home it would all be working fine. (In the past this has always worked.) Not this time however. Oh no. This time my sky box decided it was going to play silly beggars. Deciding I was too annoyed to deal with at 10.30 at night (and missing Chelsea Lately :( on E!) I thought I'll deal with this tomorrow when I've free all day. But no matter what I tried, and believe me I tried everything the 'help book' (yeah right) told me to do. Its then I saw my BFF K was on msn and since she too has sky, and is a hell of lot more tech savy than I am, decided to pick her brain. She advised to reboot the damn thing. Ok that sounds like a great idea. Have no idea how to that but sounds good. After all that always works with my laptop he he. So she told me what I needed to do. I did it still didn't work. It got to the point where bill in hand I started to dial the number for a helpline when what happens. The bugger decides to come off standby and start working. I swear my box just knew he was in trouble.
So yes in future once you have tried every available option I say start to dial the number of the helpline etc and I bet the thing you thought was broken will start to work. Honestly. Just try it.

Four Girls, One Film, Lots of Fun!

Every so often you go on a evening/night out and it turns out to something so much more than you could have imagined.

That night for me and the girls was Thursday 3rd June. It was a first for all, four of us. Sat outside on a hot summers night watching a film in Manchester. The location Spinningfield Manchester city centre. The film 'Dirty Dancing'.

But what a great atmosphere it was. All sat outside some sat on deckchairs (or in our case camping chairs provided by Jen) and some were just sat on blankets. It was a night that had it all great company, drinking and not forgetting everyone getting up and dancing at the end. After Patrick Swayze's most memorable line “Nobody puts Baby in the corner” got a huge cheer off all the ladies watching. Not a single person was sat down once the title song started to play. Including myself and my friend Lisa singing along to '(I've had) The Time of My Life' at the end of the film.

Every Thursday they will be showing a different film. Some old like 'Dirty Dancing' some a little more up to date. For more information on up and coming films being shown just use the link below.

Now then we had a great time and I've been humming the songs since.

In Loving Memory...

Earlier this week an old boss of mine died. I was surprised at how much it upset me at the time. While she had been ill for some time and she had not been my boss longer, I was still shocked when hearing she had died. Me, my friends and work colleagues, at the time, all had fond memories. The same day a group was set-up on facebook and it was not a surprise to see so many people remembering her as the strong woman I too was proud to know. She was a great role model not only as a boss but also as a woman with an amazingly strong personality, by far the strongest woman I have had the pleasure of knowing. Everyone who knew her also had a lot of respect for her.

The saddest thing of all though is that she leaves behind a loving husband and young daughter. A daughter who will miss out on so many things a mother and daughter should experience. Being close to my own mum I can't begin to imagine what that would be like.

In loving memory of a woman who will be forever in our hearts, sadly missed by all of us. An inspiration to all of us.

Friends

Some friends you just know from the minute you meet them you are going to be friends for a long time. These are the friends that like every bit of you. The strange sides of you that your family knows and loves you for. Friends are there for you when you are down, Pick you up when you are having a bad day. Tell you everything is going to be ok, even when it doesn't look like it is possible.

The best friendships are not always the ones you've had for years. Sometimes, the best friendships are ones that are stil young. The ones you meet when you are becoming 'an adult'. These are the friendships that know you through some harder times, for example the death of a loved one, instead of crying over that first boy who pulled your hair.

I love my girls (and boys) alot you guys know who you are :)

Return of a friend

Really excited to hear that my good friend will back on British soil in around 15 days. I just love those friends that know you better than you know yourself. Those friends that are still your friends even though you can be a little quirky at times. Friends that even when you do stupid things like falling over your own feet (girls we have all done this) they look at you and know that you are just being you.

My friend is one of the most supportive friends I have. Because even though we lost touch for 3 years when he went to uni, when we did meet up again it was like we had only spoke a week before.

Any way must get back to writting my book. So byes for now.
