Looking For Mr Right... Now!

I was recently watching something on the tv, and it got me thinking. Why do so many people settle for people they are too good for. All around us we have tv programmes, movies and books throwing at us unrealistic expectations of finding 'Mr/Mrs Right'. In most movies the girl and guy always end up together. In life though that's not always the case. You grow apart, the things you had in common seem to change and you become different people. I too have fallen into this trap. It doesn't make me big headed to think that I'm too good for someone. More learning from my mistakes. After all as we get older isn't this what is suppose to happen?

We all deserved to be wooed by that special someone. We all deserve to be happy. Sometimes though do we need to have different interests than that of our partner? After all we all need our own space. Next time you are looking at a guy stood at the bar, listening to someone who is making you laugh. Just look at them a little more closer. Instead of thinking 'is this the person I'm gonna spend the rest of my life with?'. Think 'is this person gonna be a fun person to be around?' We should all just live in the moment and not get so caught up in the future. After all living in the moment can be so much more fun.

Ok so I'm writing this post after having a thought the other day. I was thinking how six years ago I mentally made some thoughts of where I would be in ten years. Who I would be with. In this dream scenario I was happily settled down and professionally stable. But somewhere life got in the way and my wants and needs changed too. Someone you think might be great and the love of your life, might disappoint you. Suddenly your Mr Right has gone. So what I'm saying is this. Enjoy your life as it is. If some guy/girl is good to be around now just enjoy it. Eventually . 'Mr Right Now' will turn into Mr Right. And you won't have missed out on any of the fun along the way.

Age Is Just A Number!

I was reading something recently about dating people older (like a lot older) and the stigma that is attached to it. This kind of thing really dose my head in. For a few reasons. Not only because I too have dated someone older (ok maybe more than one). And that kind of narrow-mindedness really annoys me. Here's why:

What does it matter if a guy is a year older than you or 15 years older? At the end of the day if you as a couple don't think it is a problem then other people should just mind there own business.

Nobody ever has a problem when some 50+ old fella is dating someone in there 30's. Why should it be a problem for someone in there 20's to be dating someone in there mid 30's? It shouldn't.

As long as both parties are consenting adults it shouldn't be a problem. I don't think somebody who is 15/16 for example should be dating anyone in there 20's. Just so we're clear.

The only thing people should consider when dating somebody with a 'big' age difference is do you have things in common? And really people should only date people they share common interests with or enjoy being with. Age shouldn't even be a factor.

From my experience age is just a number. Sometimes its higher, sometimes its lower. Whatever it is it isn't really anybody's business but the people who are dating. As long as they are both happy together and enjoy being together what does it matter? Your the two people who are dating each other. Only you know what your relationship means/is. Sure the relationship may not go the distance but as long as you have fun along the way isn't that what dating is all about. Isn't that what matters.

So the next time you think a guy/girl may be too old or too young just think about the above. You may be missing out on the love of your life just because of what other people/your friends think.

Is dating harder or easier for us now than it was for our parents generation?

My parents have been together since he was invited to her 18th birthday party. That was over 30 years ago. My best friends parents have been together forever as well when they met 27 years ago. Our parents met each other in a generation where there was no Internet, social networking sites, internet dating sites, mobile phones and other forms of electronic communication and gadgets. This was where the only way to contact someone was to go and see them in person or call them up on a land line telephone number.

Does having too many different ways to communicate and find the man or woman of our dreams, make it more difficult and more complicated? There are just so many ways and things we have to check just to see if that someone has tried to get in touch with us. Drew Barrymore's character in 'He's just not that into you' sums it up perfectly. “I had this guy leave me a voicemail at work, so I called him at home, and then he emailed me to my BlackBerry, and so I texted to his cell, and now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies. Its exhausting.” And she was right it is exhausting. But at the same time is it easier for us to date people now. I mean we can meet people in a bar or club but we can also meet people online. Get to know people before we even meet them in person. But does it take away those buterfly's you get when a guy starts chatting you up. Meeting someone out of a crowded room and sharing that look. The look where you see each other for the first time and are instantly attracted to each other.

So I'll leave you to come to your own conclusions on if you think it is easier for us now, than it was for our parents. I personally think it may not be easier. But I do think its better now. To have access to all different way of meeting new people. Be it for a relationship, or even just a simple way of meeting new friends. People you would not meet normally, be it romanticly or otherwise.

Men & there Lies!

Men. They come in various shapes and sizes. Some you let into your heart and some you don't. I have never been a huge dater. At school I was more interested in spending time with my friends than having some huge need to have a boyfriend. At 21 I fell in love for the first time. He's a guy I will always have a special place in my heart. And while i have 'dated' a fair bit since I can genuinly say I have never loved another guy.
A couple of months ago now I broke up with my ex and was suprised at how easy it had been. As much as when we were together I thought he was someone very special, after we broke up I stopped seeing him through rose tinted glasses. Today we did the swap over giving each other back our stuff. And upon seeing the ex i felt nothing at all. It was a bit awkward which I knew it would be. But at the same time i felt nothing. He wanted to remain friends after and as much as he said thats what he wanted he lied to many on any number of IM chats. It was at that point I went from wanting to be friends with the guy to not trusting a single word that came out of his mouth. Men lie. We all know this. What I am surprised at is that in some way this surprised me.
So the new me is putting this last 'relationship' behind me and is ready to move on. So while this will probably not be the last time that pick myself and move on to 'the next guy' at least it will make me grow as a person. Much like this last breakup did.
